To help Spotify celebrate Black History Month, Imprint Projects created WEAR BLACK HISTORY – a merch collection, retail pop-up and microsite that honors the untold moments in Black music history. The merch collection was inspired by six key music moments and figures in Black music history, selected by a team of black curators from the Smithsonian museum. Distributed free at a one-day pop-up in Soho, each item was presented against a range of Black history moments and inspirations, creating a learning environment where guests went on a musical journey. Elements included artist statements, sound design, a Spotify code that directs to a playlist associated with the moment, and collateral to give context to the collection.
Even after viewing the exhibition, folks continued to network. The exhibition was a natural starting point for connection, and allowed people to go beyond that to create community in the moment.
