Imprint Projects collaborated with artist David Horvitz to create a New Year’s gift for our friends, clients, and collaborators. The book carries seeds collected from Honey Locust trees of Zuccotti Park, which bore witness to New York’s Occupy Wall Street protests in 2011. During a residency at Clock Tower Gallery, Horvitz germinated trees from the seeds and with the help of about 50 volunteers, escorted them by train to Stamford, Connecticut in May 2013, where they will continue to grow until they find permanent homes. One sapling book was acquired by the Hessel Library at Bard College, the first book of their collection to be housed outside of the building.
I really like the image of someone going across the Atlantic in a boat, carrying a small apple branch or rose cutting, ready to plant it wherever they end up.
